RALEIGH, N.C. (WGHP) — Some things take a little longer to catch on than others, even when their value is apparent.

NC State professor and researcher Afsaneh Rabiei knows all about that.

“I had my post-doc at Harvard University working on metal foam like this one,” says Professor Rabiei as she holds a block of the item she’s been perfecting for the last 25 years.

Her product is a combination of metal and air pockets that makes it not just unusually strong but also resistant to transferring heat. She’s been looking to turn it into a commercial entity with her company, Advanced Materials Manufacturing, but that takes longer than you might think.
