Chicago police found an elderly man unresponsive with head trauma Monday night in the Washington Heights neighborhood on the Far South Side.

About 9:15 p.m., officers responded to a call in the 9500 block of South Halsted Street and found a an in his 70s lying on the ground with head trauma, police said.

The unidentified man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was pronounced dead.

A preliminary investigation revealed the victim was pushed to the ground and beaten by an unknown suspect who fled the scene.

No one was in custody, and detectives were investigating.
