KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City Fire Department Chief Ross Grundyson released a statement to the members and staff of KCFD on Monday announcing his retirement after nearly three years serving as fire chief in Kansas City.
According to his email, after some extensive thought and conversations with his wife, as well as City Manager Mario Vasquez and union leadership, Grundyson will "pass the torch" in January 2026. He served nearly 30 years with the department and was announced as the interim fire chief in January 2023.
His letter, which was addressed to the "KCFD Family," states:
