LAKEWOOD, Ohio — A Lakewood middle school athlete is making national waves in a competition that began with nearly 250,000 contenders across the United States and Canada.

Harlow Todd, an eighth grader at Harding Middle School, has advanced to the quarterfinals of Colossal’s Youth Athlete of the Year competition, which raises funds and awareness for the Why Not You Foundation, founded by NFL quarterback Russell Wilson and Ciara, and the V Foundation for Cancer Research.

Harlow is now among the top 1% of athletes left in the competition. To move on, she must finish first in her group before the quarterfinals end on Thursday, Sept. 18, at 10 p.m.

The winner will receive a $25,000 prize and be featured in a 3Brand (by Russell Wilson) advertisement in Sports Illustrated.
