SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - A 66-year-old Sioux Falls resident fell victim to a scam that lasted over nine months.
On Monday afternoon, the victim called Sioux Falls police, reporting a man she knew had been in an accident in Mexico City.
The victim claimed this man had gone to a hospital, and she was unable to get hold of him.
The officer quickly realized the victim had been involved in a scam.
It was determined that the victim met a man whom she didn’t know on Facebook, and had been talking to him over the last nine months through another app.
During that time, the man would make requests for money for a number of reasons.
The victim sent the man approximately $60,000 in gift card information over that time period.
