UPDATE: Public asked to avoid Palmer Ln. in Cherokee Co., NC due to suspicious package investigation

UPDATE: The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office in North Carolina is asking the public to avoid the area of Palmer Lane in the Marble Community on Tuesday.

Shortly before 11:15am, the CCSO said on Facebook that there is an active law enforcement operation happening in the area at Core Scientific.

Sheriff Dustin Smith said there is an investigation happening after a reported suspicious package was found at the company.

"Employees have been evacuated as a precaution and there appears to be no threat to the surrounding public at this time," said Sheriff Smith.

The ATF and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation have been called into help with the investigation.

Sheriff Smith said the law enforcement presence is expected to last for several hours.
