LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) - A South Carolina state trooper was hit after a crash in Lexington County early Tuesday.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol said Master Trooper Wayne H. LaBounty was hit by a vehicle during a traffic stop in the area of Augusta Road.
LaBounty was airlifted to a hospital for his injuries. As of Tuesday afternoon, SCHP said he remains in “serious” condition.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Department later said LaBounty was on a stop when a deputy from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department slowed down to check on the trooper. RCSD said a red truck in the same lane as the deputy failed to stop in time.
Officials said the truck collided with the LCSD vehicle, the vehicle that was stopped by LaBounty and an unrelated vehicle. RCSD said this also caused LaBount
