MACON COUNTY, N.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Macon County Fire Marshal reports the Macon County Board of Commissioners voted to terminate the contract between the county and Burningtown/lotla Fire and Rescue at a meeting on Tuesday.

Officials said the county has entered an agreement with Cowee Fire and Rescue to provide services to residents of the Burningtown community until a new contract for fire protection can be put in place.

The Fire Marshal did not disclose why the board decided to terminate the previous contract.
