CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - The United States Attorney’s Office and Federal Bureau of Investigation held a joint press conference in response to the deadly light rail stabbing of Iryna Zarutska on Friday, Aug. 22.
Attorney Russ Ferguson, of the Western District of North Carolina, and James C. Barnacle Jr., special agent in charge of the FBI in North Carolina, were scheduled to speak at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9.
The press conference came days after the release of surveillance footage from the scene, depicting Zarutska sitting down and being attacked minutes later.
Decarlos Brown Jr., 34, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and ordered to undergo a competency evaluation .
