The Grand Canyon is one of the most recognizable natural formations in the world, and arguably the most famous natural landmark in the U.S. Millions of visitors flock to the steep cliffs each year to gasp in awe at the sheer size of the chasm.

Unfortunately, with so many people visiting Grand Canyon National Park, tragedies are bound to happen. The park has already been the source of much sorrow because of the Dragon Bravo Fire, which destroyed most of the infrastructure on the North Rim of the canyon, including the historic Grand Canyon Lodge and North Rim visitor center . Trails into the Grand Canyon were only reopened in late August , but the North Rim remains closed indefinitely.
