BEDFORD, Pa. (WTAJ) — Omni Bedford Springs Resort & Spa is celebrating the opening of its new, American with Disabilities Act compliant, hiking trail.
Lewis's Loop is the first trail of its kind at the resort. It is accessible to those in wheelchairs who still want to enjoy the great outdoors.
Jessica Sims, one of the project coordinators for the trail said it took more than a year to design and build, but could not have come sooner, because accessible recreation is needed in the Bedford area.
"A lot of the area that we live in is historical, so there's limitations on what can be ADA accessible," Sims said. "My son is a 12 year old little boy who is in a power wheelchair, a 400lb wheelchair. He wants to be out. He wants to be moving."
Lewis's Loop can be found by the Heritage Trailhead
