Foreign Minister Penny Wong has condemned Israeli strikes against Qatar, saying that military action on the third-party nation was “the wrong thing to do”.
Israel attacked Doha on Wednesday in what it said was a strike targeted at top Hamas leaders, including Khalil al-Hayya, its exiled Gaza chief and top negotiator.
Ms Wong joined the chorus of international leaders, including US President Donald Trump, criticising the move which she said “flies in the face” of progress towards a ceasefire.
"It's a strike that violates Qatar's sovereignty. It undermines, or potentially damages, the possibility of a ceasefire and the release of hostages," she said.
"Let's remember what Qatar has been doing. It has been working with the United States to try and deliver a ceasefire and return of hostages
