LAKE LURE, N.C. — The Lake Lure Flowering Bridge board approved new plans for its themed gardens nearly one year after Hurricane Helene left the attraction in ruins.

The plan includes a new Peter Rabbit garden, a rose garden, a pollinator garden and more including a new Rainbow Bridge. Helene washed away the bridge that honored beloved pets . The plan was posted on the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge Facebook page.

Thousands of people placed pet collars on the bridge. The new Rainbow Bridge will be flanked by azaleas and hydrangeas arranged by color like a rainbow.

Work is underway before construction begins. Crews are grading the parking lot area and the old roadbed is being removed.
