KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Kansas City leaders revealed the finalized location for Kansas City Police Department’s temporary jail, which will be brought up at a city council meeting next week in a proposed ordinance.
The city currently does not own a jail, it uses other jails to detain criminals, and it contracts out with Vernon and Johnson counties.
City councilman Nathan Willett said they have access to about 140 beds between those two counties for inmates. He said this means they can deny certain individuals.
Willett said adding a temporary jail would add in total, about 100 additional spaces by April 2026. It would be located a city-owned tow lot along Front Street.
“I would love for it to happen right now. I’ve been saying over and over again that we need one. I knew when I got ele
