TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - Confusion is mounting in Tucson over access to COVID vaccines due to new FDA restrictions.
Currently, you can receive a COVID vaccine in Southern Arizona if you meet FDA requirements. However, at pharmacies like Safeway, a prescription is necessary.
Arizona is among 13 states where pharmacies require a doctor's prescription to obtain the vaccine. The FDA has approved the vaccine for individuals aged 65 and older, as well as for those between six months and 64 years old with underlying conditions that increase their risk of illness.
Jan Martin, a 74-year-old Tucson resident with an underlying condition, shared her frustration with the process. She was denied a vaccine at Safeway because she was unaware of the prescription requirement.
