The Solvang City Council opened its meeting Monday opened on a celebratory note, honoring two cultural pillars of the Santa Ynez Valley before moving swiftly through city business.

Mayor David Brown and councilmembers presented a proclamation recognizing the Santa Ynez Valley News on its 100th anniversary . Founded in 1925, the paper has served “as the trusted voice of the Santa Ynez Valley for a hundred years, documenting the growth, milestones, and stories of our community with integrity and dedication,” Brown read from the proclamation.

Executive Editor Marga Cooley accepted the honor on behalf of the publication.
