LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Bullitt County Schools is going through a realignment, meaning your kids’ school or bus route may be changing in the future.

The district says the changes will begin at the start of the 2026-2027 school year.

Right now, those changes include plans to close Nichols Elementary School and merge those students into other area schools. The district says the changes are a necessity, as student population continues to increase.

“We wanted to make sure that our school population was distributed efficiently across the district,” one official said. “We wanted to prevent overcrowding in high-growth schools and also optimize our underutilized facilities.“

The final plan is set to be voted on at the school board meeting on Sept. 22.
