GRETNA, Neb. —

A patch of dirt now sits where a community pool did for more than 50 years in Gretna.

The pool opened in the early '70s at Peterson Park. It sat west of Highway 6 at Angus Road.

Neighbors of the park like Harvey Bolte say they were "heartbroken." Bolte remembers taking his kids and his grandchildren to the park.

The city of Gretna says the pool was failing, and a water park opened at Gretna Crossing last year.

A city press release Tuesday said: " At the same time the older pool was failing, Gretna Crossing Park was under development with a new indoor pool and outdoor aquatics facility.
