BERRY CREEK, Calif. - Five years have passed since the devastating Bear Fire swept through the communities of Berry Creek, Feather Falls, and the surrounding area.

The fire, which was sparked by lightning on Aug. 17, 2020, merged with other fires to form the North Complex by September 5.

On the night of Sept. 8, activity on the Bear Fire intensified, resulting in the loss of 16 lives and the destruction of more than 2,500 homes and buildings in Berry Creek and other communities in the area.

Since then, the community has been working hard on rebuilding, including the restoration of Berry Creek's volunteer fire station and elementary school.
