A few weeks following a recent change in the leadership of Nelson County’s Department of Social Services, the agency has made strides in several key areas, according to a Sept. 4 news release from county officials.

The Nelson County Board of Supervisors voted 3-1, with Chair Ernie Reed opposed, following a closed session discussion to approve a resolution dissolving the local appointed board overseeing the county’s department of social services and replacing it with the oversight of County Administrator Candice McGarry. The board of supervisors sent a May 23 letter to the previous Nelson County Social Services Board voicing concern on a “inexcusable decline” of department’s level of collaboration and communication with key local partner agencies on numerous child protective services cases
