Suicides in New Mexico increased 9% last year, according to a new report from the New Mexico Department of Health.
In 2024, there were 512 suicides in the state, 42 more than in 2023, NMDOH officials said. New Mexico had the fifth-highest per capita suicide rate in the country in 2023, and has consistently ranked in the top five states for the last decade, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
