A man who was this week shot by police during an alleged struggle with officers in a Brisbane backyard has been charged.

The 39-year-old was shot after the officers had arrived at the property on Cabanda Street in Wynnum West at 9.20am on Tuesday in response to reports of a fire.

He was given immediate medical help before being taken to hospital by ambulance.

The man remains in a stable condition and has been charged with one count each of attempted murder and arson.

He is expected to face a bedside court hearing today.

No police officers or members of the public were injured during the shooting.
