CLEVELAND — Cleveland City Council Majority Leader Kerry McCormack announced Thursday that he will resign from his Ward 3 seat next month to join Flock Safety.
McCormack is planning to nominate Lauren Welch, the interim communications director for Say Yes Cleveland, to complete the remainder of his term. His last day on council will be Oct. 3.
The lifelong Clevelander has represented Ward 3 since 2016, when he was . He later won two terms in his own right. But in February, he announced that he would not seek reelection this November , ending a nearly decade-long run in the legislative chamber.
In his new role at Flock Safety, McCormack will be based in Cleveland and will lead the public affairs work for the eastern time zone of the United States.
