FAYETTE, Ala. (WIAT) -- Attorneys for convicted child sex offender Timothy Vess Benton have filed a response to the states motion to revoke his status in the community corrections program.

Benton was indicted by a grand jury in 2017 on 48 charges ranging from human trafficking to sodomy. The incident occurred in Hubbertville, an unincorporated area in Fayette County.

Benton took a plea deal in 2019. He pleaded guilty to two counts of sodomy, and he was sentenced to 17 years in prison. Benton served 5 1/2 years of that sentence before Judge Samuel Junkin modified the sentence placing Benton into the community corrections program, which is a form of house arrest.

Last week, district attorney Andy Hamlin filed a motion to put Benton back in prison after he was arrested by the Fayette Count
