Another week has gone by, and despite some rainfall, the drought has continued to worsen. The latest update from the U.S. Drought Monitor now shows severe drought conditions have developed across portions of the Ozarks.
Much of Southern Missouri, including the Springfield area, is now considered to be in severe drought conditions. The severe drought conditions extend across the state line into portions of Northern Arkansas as well.
Moderate drought conditions have also expanded, covering most of Southern Missouri and extending south across the eastern half of Arkansas.
The shift from a wet spring to a very dry pattern has been dramatic and is considered a "flash drought". In the past 3 months, we've gone from no drought conditions to widespread drought conditions.
