About 40 full-time Georgian College support workers in Owen Sound walked a picket line Thursday on Day 1 of a province-wide college full-time support workers’ strike.

Classes continue as scheduled and the college remains open, Georgian said in a statement, which noted faculty, librarians and counsellors, who belong to different bargaining units, are not on strike.

Picketers carried blue and white OPSEU signs saying “Keep the lights on, pay us fairly,” “Students need support,” “Save our colleges,” and “College cuts hit communities.” Occasionally, a motorist would honk support, which strikers acknowledged with a wave.
