BARTOW, Fla. (WFLA) — It took a jury two hours to determine Cheryl Williams, 49, was guilty of murdering Polk County Sheriff's Office Deputy Blane Lane, 21, in 2022.
“Thank God because I don’t have answers of why, but at least God did this one," said Shellie Lane, Blane Lane’s mother, after the verdict was reached. “I would love to say there’s a sigh of relief but it doesn’t bring him back."
In October 2022, Lane and other deputies arrived at a mobile home in Polk City to serve Williams with an arrest warrant.
Prosecutors told jurors during the three-day trial that she had weeks to turn herself in to authorities.
“Rather than choose the right thing, she chose to lie low,” said assistant state attorney Michael Nutter during closing arguments Thursday.
