FORT WORTH, Texas — A Fort Worth City Council member under fire for a social media post using an old quote from conservative activist Charlie Kirk after his fatal shooting has responded to the backlash, saying political violence "cannot and should not be tolerated."

Fort Worth City Council member Elizabeth Beck shared, then reportedly deleted, a post re-sharing a 2023 Newsweek article in which Kirk had been quoted as saying gun deaths were "unfortunately" worth it to keep Second Amendment rights with the word 'unfortunate' superimposed over Kirk's photo.
