The fall feel has faded with the September sizzle now underway. Temperatures today climbed above 90° in most areas, marking the first 90° day for many since August 22nd. It won't be the last with a September heatwave just getting underway.

The heat dome is back, building north across the middle of the country. It will rule the region into next week before getting split in two by storms toward the end of next week.

The result will be a prolonged period of hot and dry weather.

Rain chances will be close to zero across the area through Tuesday with afternoon highs warming into the mid-90s. The hot weather will chase record highs and may touch the record mark in spots. In Springfield, the days with the highest chance of hitting the record will be Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.
