Last week was a difficult one for Auburn High head coach Keith Etheredge.
On the same day his team was playing its biggest game of the regular season, his 73-year-old mom was having open heart surgery in Birmingham.
“Last week could have been one of the worst weeks of my life,” he said Thursday. “It really could have been.”

Etheredge’s mom, Linda “Susie” Nelson, came through triple bypass surgery and is recovering at a relative’s house. Etheredge’s Auburn team bounced back from a loss at Vestavia Hills the week before with a 17-10 win over the rival Bulldogs.
