COLUMBIA, S.C. — Telecommuting, or working from home, became normal during Covid with workers setting up computer workstations in makeshift home offices. Since 2022, most, but not all, workers have transitioned back into company offices at least part of the work week.
In an effort to get all South Carolina state agencies on the same page, Governor Henry McMaster issued Executive Order 2025-31 on Thursday, September 11, 2025. The order directs the state Division of Human Resources to implement standard procedures to revise telecommuting and remote work policies for all state employees "in order to provide clarity, consistency, and accountability across state government."
