SLIDELL, La. (WVUE) - Following last year’s arrest, a former Slidell High teacher pleaded guilty earlier this week to charges related to sexual misconduct with a student.

A spokesperson for District Attorney Colin Sims’ office said that Alexa Wingerter, 36, appeared in court on Monday (Sept. 8), where she pleaded guilty to two counts of prohibited sexual contact between an educator and a student.

When she was arrested last year, Wingerter was booked on allegations that included buying alcohol for students at bars, exchanging inappropriate photos and texts, and an alleged relationship with an 18-year-old male student.

The DA’s spokesperson said that Wingerter was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next 15 years and relinquish her teaching license.

She will not serve jail time
