FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio -- Every August is a bittersweet time for Greater Cleveland Young Marines Organization Unit Commander Dan Dotson.

Not only does the youth-organization hold its annual registration but it also marks the retirement of young marines graduating out of the program.

This year includes saying goodbye to Fairview Park residents Master Sgt. Joseph Castro and Gunnery Sgt. Trevor Weppler.

“Both of them joined the program when they were 8 years old,” said Dotson, who is a Fairview Park resident. “They’ve built so many characteristics. They’ve used our leadership traits to their advantage.

“They’ve come out of their shell and they’ve become young leaders 10 years in the program. They’ve accomplished so much.”

As for Castro, who plans on studying education this fall at Clevela
