GALVESTON

A short-term rental ad-hoc committee will hold a public event about ordinance changes it’s considering recommending to the city council in effort to better regulate the growing industry and better police bad actors.

The forum will be 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at the Historic Galveston Water and Electric Light Community Center, 715 30th St.

The committee was created to assess and change the city’s short-term rental ordinances after explosive growth that disturbed the public peace, cleanliness, traffic and parking, according to a draft of the ordinance.

Nearly 4,200 short-term rentals operate on the island, City Marshal Heather Morris said Aug. 15.
