RUCKERSVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- First responders from across the East Coast gathered in Charlottesville this week for hands-on training in cutting-edge vehicle extrication techniques — a critical skill for rescuing crash victims from modern vehicles.

The event, held in partnership with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Auto Body Council, allowed crews to practice removing occupants from late-model cars, including electric vehicles (EVs) with advanced safety systems.
