FLAT ROCK, N.C. (FOX Carolina) - Governor Josh Stein visited western NC on Monday to announce his latest federal budget request.

The governor said he is requesting nearly $13.5 billion in new funding from congress for Hurricane Helene recovery. This funding will go toward restoring homes and small businesses, supporting local government services, and rebuilding roads and bridges.

Stein said he will travel Washington, D.C. to meet with federal officials to discuss the importance of these resources to western North Carolina’s recovery.
