A Long Island Rail Road strike that could have begun as early as Thursday morning may be delayed, potentially for months.

The LIRR Bargaining Coalition on Monday announced that its members voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike, but said it won’t be happening this week.

Instead, the coalition is asking President Donald Trump to create an emergency board that would make recommendations to both the coalition and the MTA, with the goal of reaching a contract settlement.
