GROTON, Conn. (WFSB) - A woman is currently fighting for her life after accidentally being shot by her downstairs neighbor.

On September 14th at around 10:52 p.m., 30-year-old David Bean told police he accidentally discharged his firearm while attempting to cycle the action of his rifle.

Bean told police the bullet traveled through the ceiling of his apartment, hitting the woman in the apartment directly above his.

Officers quickly responded to the Phoenix Park Apartments on Long Hill Road.

When officers arrived, they found two neighbors and the victim’s boyfriend trying to use a makeshift tourniquet on the victim while talking to her to keep her awake and focused.
