TOWN OF DICKINSON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) - Cutler Botanic Garden is looking to overcome adversity and win a contest among gardeners across the country.

Cornell Cooperative Extension, which operates Cutler Garden, has entered into the All-America Selections Landscape Design Challenge.

A-A-S is a non-profit plant-testing organization. This year, its theme is STEAM, or science, technology, engineering, art and math.

Cornell Master Gardener Kenyon Merriwether designed the 110-foot-long main display, choosing plants that helped to illustrate the individual disciplines.

Merriwether says Mother Nature threw them a few curveballs along the way.
