ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported Monday (Sept. 15) that Minnesota VIkings quarterback J.J. McCarthy will miss the next 2-4 weeks of the season with a high ankle sprain.
McCarthy could potentially miss the Oct. 5 game against the Cleveland Browns slated for London's Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. McCarthy injured the ankle in the team's 22-6 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on "Sunday Night Football."
The Vikings ' backup quarterback is Carson Wentz.
McCarthy is Minnesota's starter this season after Sam Darnold signed with the Seattle Seahawks in the offseason . In two games, McCarthy is completing 58.5 percent of his passes for 301 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. The Vikings are 1-1 on the season.
McCarthy was taken with the 10th overall pick by Minnesota in the 2024
