The Oklahoma Supreme Court has blocked implementation of the state’s new academic standards for social studies.
In a two-page order issued Monday, the court issued a temporary stay prohibiting the Oklahoma State Department of Education and Oklahoma State Board of Education from enforcing the new social studies standards that were approved earlier this year and include more than 40 references to the Bible, Christianity and “Judeo-Christian values.”
The stay also orders OSDE and OSBE to rely on the 2019 academic standards while litigation proceeds and prohibits both from spending any public money on enforcing or implementing the new standards until further notice.
