A development platform which could bring 1,000 jobs has been approved despite numerous objections from residents. Rula Developments Ltd applied for planning permission to build "development plateus" on land near Durham Lane, Eaglescliffe . These would get the site ready for marketing and "unlock" it for development.

The Stockton Council-owned site would be used for industry, warehousing, research and development, with an internal estate road, earthworks, drainage, topsoil storage and utilities infrastructure. An outline plan was also submitted for employment buildings, service yard areas and railway sidings.
