FORT VALLEY, Ga. — Due to the rise in beef prices across the country, a Fort Valley restaurant has implemented a $2 surcharge on all burgers.
The Railroad Cafe, owned by Jeffrey Hall, posted on Facebook that, due to beef prices doubling over the past decade, a surcharge has been applied to all burgers on the menu, effective immediately.
Hall said beef prices have doubled since he opened the restaurant 10 years ago, forcing him to take action after trying to absorb the costs for as long as possible.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average price of beef was approximately $4 per pound in March 2020. Current data shows beef prices have increased nearly 57% to over $6 per pound.
"We run a restaurant and any other business for that matter, it has its own challenges," Hall
