SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- The Sanford International has its first new champion since 2021.
Mother Nature threatened to interrupt the final round of the Sanford International but held off long enough to crown a champion.
"I was looking at a radar screen for about 45 minutes with the tour meteorologist and the Sioux Falls Shield, as we're trademarking it now, is in full effect, so it split off both ways. We're so grateful that all the fans were able to enjoy the finish of the event, to not have to go back to their cars and come back," Tournament Director Davis Trosin said.
The tournament is in its eighth year but has had only four champions, with Steve Stricker winning three straight and four overall. Sunday, the event added its fifth champion in Retief Goosen.
