SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A South Dakota legislator wants to exchange his Senate seat in Pierre for a spot in the U.S. House in Washington.

Republican state Sen. Casey Crabtree of the Madison area, who represents four eastern South Dakota counties in the state capitol, is closely aligning himself with the White House as he pursues South Dakota's only seat in the U.S. House in 2026.

"I'm running for Congress because I want to help President Trump deliver on the America-first agenda, and he needs a strong, proven conservative fighter to help him deliver on that," Crabtree said Monday.

The Trump administration has pledged an "America first" stance, and this phrasing is now part of South Dakota's 2026 congressional contest.
