LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- The Animal Foundation announced the return of a foster incentive program Monday afternoon.

According to a release from the animal shelter, the program is designed to help alleviate shelter overcrowding and save the lives of dogs.

The shelter said there were 495 dogs in the shelter as of Monday. Over the last week alone, 318 dogs arrived at the shelter.

The animal foundation said the goal of the program is to place dozens of dogs into month-long foster homes in order to create space in the shelter. Fosters who commit to caring for an eligible dog for four full weeks will receive $200 at the end of the foster period.

The program will run from Monday, Sept. 15, through Friday, Sept. 19. During this time, potential fosters can go to the foster window in the shelter's ad
