COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- A turf toe injury will cause the face of the Cincinnati Bengals offense to miss time and a local doctor explains the extent of that type of injury.

According to multiple reports, Athens-native and Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow will require surgery for the turf toe injury he sustained during the first half of Sunday's 31-27 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Bengals coach Zac Taylor confirmed Burrow's diagnosis in a press conference on Monday, but did not specify a timeline on Burrow's return.

Turf toe is an injury to the ligament of the big toe which happens when the toe is hyperextended, which is not an uncommon injury to football players.
