PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Students across West Virginia have lost access to phones, smart watches and other devices during the school day.
Teachers in Putnam County say they’re enjoying the transition.
“Actually, it was a lot less troublesome than we thought it might be,” said Angie Turkelson, a teacher at Hurricane High School.
Putnam County started the year forcing students to put phones up in lockers, but approved the final policy on Monday.
The policy includes allowing students to bring phones out during lunch time.
Turkelson said she thinks the policy is great for students.
“Kids are focused in on academics, they’re listening to their teachers and phones have not been an issue. So it’s been a great change for I think all of us,” she said.
