CLARINDA, Iowa —

The city of Clarinda ran out of water Monday following multiple water main breaks, officials confirmed.

Clarinda City Manager Gary McClarnon said the shortage is connected to the city's ongoing boil advisory, which has been in effect since last Tuesday due to an algae bloom in the Southwest Regional Water District supply.

The advisory was expected to be lifted this Tuesday, but a series of leaky pipes and pumps caused additional setbacks.

“Unfortunately, yesterday we had a water main break,” McClarnon said.

According to McClarnon, two high-service pumps and two 10-inch water pipes broke. He said the city worked late the day they discovered the problem.
