Hollywood legend Robert Redford, who has died at the age of 89, once admitted he got paid "practically nothing" for his iconic Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid role.

The star, also known for his roles in films such The Sting, The Candidate, All the President's Men and A Bridge Too Far, passed away today (Tuesday, September 16), according to his publicist .

Redford , who also founded the Sundance Film Festival, died at his home in Sundance, Utah, surrounded by loved ones. An environmental advocate and champion for Native American rights, Redford was once described as "a chunk of Mount Rushmore levered into stonewashed denims".
